Scripting if statements with slight variations

I have several linked databases, one of which contains names of companies who supply products. There are several variations of each name, generally because they have evolved over the years we've used this database. Each one has at least one unique and common element though. For example, I have "XYZ Company" and "XYZ Company, Inc" and "XYZ"

I am trying to create a script that says :If the field name contains "XYZ", then perform a certain script. I can only get it to work when I set up each seperate version of each name.

Is there any way to find records that contain certain words or groups of letters in the field I'm searching?

Please let me know if that doesn't make any sense.

Thanks for the help.
