Using Filemaker 8 database with Filemaker 7

I am a new member and have a query that I hope someone might be able to advise on. I have a database developed in FileMaker Pro 8 on the Mac. I was hoping to use this on Filemaker 8 at work but it turns out that Filemaker 8 requires Windows SP2 which will not be available on our work machines until next year smiley-frown

Would it be possible to run this on Filemaker 7 on Windows SP1.

I understand that the Filemaker file formats are the same. What are the sorts of things that might cause problems?

Many thanks

There are many things that were new in FM8, and would not be available for FM7 clients. Here's what I could think of:

Tab Controls

Auto-Complete

Calendar drop-downs

Script Variables

Email merge

Save Records As->Excel

Save Records As->PDF

Custom Menus

Script results

A bunch of functions, like:

GetValue()

GetNthRecord()

TextFormatRemove()

Get(CustomMenuSetName)

Get(DesktopPath)

Get(DocumentPath)

Get(FileMakerPath)

Get(HostIPAddress)

Get(RecordOpenCount)

Get(RecordOpenState)

Get(RequestOmitState)

Get(ScriptResult)

Get(SystemDrive)

Get(TextRulerVisible)

Get(UseSystemFormatsState)

Get(WindowZoomLevel)

You should probably test everything, and see if anything doesn't work.

Let us know if you have specific questions.
