help with creating records

Recommended Posts

I am trying to have a new record created in a seperate table, based on a value of a field in the original table.

Ex.

If I have a pop up field that selects different types of cars. I want to have filemaker detect what type of car I selected, and then create a new record in a seperate table that will allow me to input the specifications unique to that type of car.

I dont know if I can script this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I assume that your pop up field is a field within your original table layout. As far as I have found there is no way to auto trigger a script when the data within a pop up field has been changed ( It's something I have wanted to do from time to time). You need to place a little button beside your popup field called say -Make Record- and attach a script that creates you new record in your new table and fills in the data fields that you want with the -Set Field- command.

Hope that helps

Quentin
