generating a time/day specific product id #

Howdy,

I've designed a "roast log" db (in FM6v4.0) for a coffee roasting company that needs to have a (highly) unique number for each roast done on any given day using an interpretation of the julian date-numbering system. so far i've come up with the following:

Right( Year , 1 ) & DayofYear( Date ) & Roast #

--leading to a # like this: 515006 (5=year, 150=day of year, 06=type of roast). I need to add two more date specific numbers : the batch # for that roast on that given day so e.g. the first roast of "06" on day 150 would be "01", the second would be "02" et cetera. leading to a # like this: 51500601.

seems like a tough date-specific consideration but then again i'm new at this so any insights would be GREATLY appreciated. thanks!

Thank you!!!

Actually I only have FP6 so I can't open that fp7 file. any chance you could save it as an fp6 or 5 file and re-send?

cheers,
