Runtime re. "Binding Files"

bigzilla

Question

We have Mac's here in our general office but some of our out of state offices have Pc's. I'm making a Runtime for the first time and i'm confused reading the "Binding database into runtime solutions" part of the manual. It says for Pc's, bind with a Pc and if it's for a Mac, bind with a Mac and if you want it corss-platform. Bind it with the Pc first and then the Mac.

Well, as I said, we don't have Pc's here and from what I can tell, the Pc binding tool is not included with the Mac Developer CD. I feel I must be missing something. Surely I don't have to buy another developer for Pc’s, or go to an out of state office to do a PC binding. That would really put me in a bind!

Looking forward to your help, and hopefully some good news.

Bill

Indeed - And Dell right now has an excellent starting PC complete with monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. for the huge price of $299 - add another 256m of memory and you are at about $350 for a brand new Dell 2.40gig Celeron processor. Great for a backup machine or just what you are doing.

Be well . . .

Hi Bill . . .

To the best of my knowldge, each platform must be bound for runtime use in its own platform. Although FMP is generally cross platform, the runtime version requires binding on its specific platform. I believe that if you use the same CD in your PC, a binding tool for windows is available. At least, earlier versions were distributed that way.

Hi Tom,

I'm confused and have two questions.

1. Are you saying that if I put the FMP 7 CD I use on my Mac into a Pc it will work?

2. Either I buy a Pc or go somewhere that has one?

I just want to make sure I understand this. My boss is going to love this one.

Yes, the FMP CD has both a Mac and a PC volume on it with separate installers.

You'll need either a Mac and a PC, or a Mac and VirtualPC.
