FileMaker server not shown in "Local Servers"

I've installed FileMaker Server 7v3 and FileMaker Pro 7v3 on seperate dedicated machines. When I start FileMaker Pro and go to open -> remote, nothing is displayed in the Local Servers list. Both machines are installed on the same subnet, so no routers or what-so-ever are causing problems here. Very strange, as I've talked to another FileMaker person and he said to me that this happened in his environment too, but there it displays the FileMaker Server from time to time.

Thanks in advance for any help!

You might want to add the hostname manually, then cross the checkbox "add to list permanently". Usually this helps. It has something to do with the network setup (Windows at least). If you don't see anything in the Host file, even after adding the name manually then check if there isn't anything blocking the 5003 port (Win XP SP2 does this by default).

Did you check to make sure files are multi user? Network won't show them if not.

Felix port 5003 is if you wish to connect to filemaker from of site or off network via a internet connection.

Chopper, please note that the 5003 port IS used for internal communications between client/client or client/server. See the Filemaker documentation, check the firewall statistics or just use a network sniffer to find out. Port 591 is used by default for communicating with the webcompanion.

If a firewall is used make sure 5003 is open or no Filemaker network traffic will pass.

The visibility of a server in the hosts listbox is more complex, has more to do with network DNS settings than with Filemaker
