John Heffernan
I had thought that if I set up an auto-enter calc field on a related table/field, that the current value in the other table would be inserted when a new record is created in the table the field is defined in. I have a graduate credits field in a registration records join table set to copy the default value for max grad credits associated with the course. Users are reporting that the field is being reset. Could this be happening if the related field is not changing? Can the calculation be triggered again by other events such as record modifies or new field definitions. I could not get it to happen by modifying records or defining new fields but. I am wondering if they change the related field and that triggered the calculation. In that case, I guess I could use a lookup instead or let the users know about this side effect. Thanks for any help. John
Maarten Witberg
v7: I think you just need to check the "do not replace existing value" box in the auto-enter dialog. kjoe
John Heffernan
Just to followup. This is FMK 6 so the checkbox mentioned does not apply. An update. I could not reproduce this problem so I am not sure what is going on. It appears that even with a calc lookup that the value is filled in when the field is created and is not reset ever unless the user changes it. Seems like this may have been some kind of user error.
