FileMaker Server 7.0v2

After installing the 7.0v2 upgrade for Server I've noticed that my 2 largest fils open quite slow. 25 seconds to be exact. The file has about 600 fields, 38,00 records and is 112Mb in size. Prior to the upgrade it only took 5-10 seconds. After the files are open they seem to work fine.Is anyone familiar with this upgrade? Iread the fix it list, and it sounded good, but what is with the startup performance issue.

If you haven't already done so, running File->File Maintenance is an important step after converting large or complex files. Unfortunately this is only available in FM7 Developer. This utility step can clean up speed issues like this.

600 fields? Yikes! It may be that there are a ton of indexes that have to open over the network (most fields that are searchable are indexed, and all match fields for relationships are indexed.) Removing indexes on fields that don't need them could help.

If you're up for it, redesigning the file from scratch may be the best way to get things cleaned up. Breaking your 600 fields up into related files would make things more efficient, plus you can get rid of the old concatonated keys that were necessary in previous versions. Probably not what you want to hear.

Actually, I spoke to one of the FileMaker engineers who advised me to change the cache size to around 200 and flush it every 1 or 2 minutes. I did that and restarted the server service. It definately helped.
