Good Day

I use Terminal Services to put everything on the server. Because my customer does not have FM Server they are limited to 1 active session with FMP. When more than 1 needs access they use Instant web Publishing also setup on server.

Soon I think they'll agree to buying FM Server but right now it's not needed.

look into the separation model (alas, not many threads on this subject on this BB, try fmforums.com before they become a paid-for site.... tongue.gif) otherwise I am interested to know why you would want to do this?

hi kjow, the only reason why i wan't to do this is a opening speed reason, i trying to look the limit of the FMSERVER FILE server, for see if it's preferable for me to quit filemaker world for VB + SQL, or could i do a little road part with him again smile.gif

I'm about to go to 55 000 client on my database so right now i'm supose for more speed i have no choice.

Damn i love filemaker but i'm stock smile.gif

thanks

Due to requirements not available in FM 5.5 we are upgrading to FM server 7 and clients with FM Pro 7.

My question regards stability of the server. We have had great success with 5.5. Has 7 been out long enough to have a track record regarding stability?

thanks

Ron

Okay, I've read this thread a bunch of times now and this is one convoluted Q & A session.

If the original question is: If you are using FM Server does the data and meta data ONLY reside on the server? The answer is YES! The FMP client application does not hold any permenant data. It only processes data that is stored on the server.

True, but I think what kjoe was getting at, is that it is possible to set up a separation model where the client computers have the interface file, and the server has the data files and business logic files. I think this is how the ismile solution works that was shown at DevCon last summer.
