JDBC Sql Tip: Create Table DUAL to get DATE()

- Problem: using FMPro, JDBC Sql Date() function, against any table will return the date for as many rows as there are data rows in the table.

Select Date() from Employees; -- for example, will return as many rows as there are employees in your table.

- Solution: Like Oracle, there's a need for a DUAL table. Dual is a Table Guaranteed to return only 1 row.

 

Select Date() from Dual;

returns: 2005-12-10

 

Dual is created using:

 

Create Table DUAL ( "DUMMY" varchar(1) NOT NULL );

INSERT INTO DUAL ( DUMMY ) VALUES ( 'X' );
