cleaning text fields

Recommended Posts

I'm working on a database with ALL data entered as uppercase text. How can I convert nearly all the fields to 'normal' text? The proper function isn't quite what I'm looking for, although it will work just fine for a couple of fields. I need to convert the all uppercase to regular case (mostly lowercase, but capitalize first letter of sentences). Of course some of the fields contain names and other proper nouns that should be capitalized, but I'm willing to have those lowercase and manual correct as needed. What's more is that sometimes multi-line fields may contain no punctuation, but still need the beginning of the line capatilized.

I'm at a complete loss as to how to approach this. I'd really like to work this out myself, but need some major guidance. Thanks
