Hey everyone. I have a file that right now works in filemaker that you click a button once you find that persons record and it just records the attendance for that date in a table. But what im wanting to do, and this is for a client and they are on a very limited budget, and this doesnt need to be fancy just needs to work is they can have FM Go on a iPad or or iphone or just some kind of scanner thats wireless that can scan a card that we generate for each person so one person can walk around and scan each persons card and after they are done for the night before the service starts they can then connect it to the computer and dump all the data that was recorded into Filemaker and Batch create attendance for them. Every monday we end up with a long line of people waiting to check in and it gets irritating for some people. Is there something or some products that people know about that might help?

This may help you or not... here is what we used to a long time ago.

A loop script is always running.

Script is paused

a Persons scans a card into awaiting global field, script go into resume mode // (could now be script tigger field)

card info is recorded into a $$variable (or global)

creates a new record

Sets Card info from $$variable into field , timestamps record.

clears $$variable

loops around again and pause until next card is scanned

Ok thats somethign like i thought but will it work for a barcode scanner of some kind? The reason being is because we may have 10-20 people waiting in line and we are trying to get them through quickly cause typing their name in all the time to find them is taking a long time.

If you have a layout with only one field in it and the cursor is in the field.

When you scan the bar code it will load into the field.

From there you have this field defined as script trigger upon modification.

This will activate your script. If you are looking for the users to fill in their name

do it in a custom dialog message with field entry. Once they complete

this action your script will bring you back to the the original layout with

cursor in field waiting for next modification

Yea and thats what i thought of doing cause i seen another solution with that same concept by Matt Patrowski just with no scanner. im jsut looking for something that we can just give out an ID card with a barcode scanner and people can walk around with a ipad loaded with FM Go and see if there is a scanner that can work with the ipad in some kind of way. Or maybe a scanner that can hold the date from each barcode on a return delimited list so to speak and then transfer it to Filemaker when we sync it later. We are basically just trying to get it so that a few people can check people in at one time cause having 10-20 people in one line waiting to be checked in by one person and having to find their name is a pain sometimes. But what you mentioned above is what im wanting to do jsut with a scanner as well not only on a mac but other ways also.
