FilaMaker & MS Excel & MS Query - [FileMaker] [FileMaker] Invalid descriptor index

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've to fill some sheet in Microsoft Excel so:

-I've activate the ODBC connection in my project FileMaker;

-I've import data in Microsoft Excel with Microsoft Query, but when MS Query return data I've the following error.

--- --- --- [FileMaker][FileMaker] Invalid descriptor index --- --- ---

Practically when I create a query with two parameters or more, I've the error.

For Example:

SELECT s.ruolo, s.nome

FROM Settore s

WHERE s.ruolo = ?

AND s.nome = ?

give me the error, instead:

SELECT s.ruolo

FROM Settore s

WHERE s.ruolo = ?

return data correctly.

To note that in MS Query it's all ok, but when I return data to MS Excel appears error.

I'm using:

- FileMaker Pro 11.0v1

- Microsoft Excel 2007 (12.0.6550.5004) SP2 MSO (12.0.6554.5001)

- Microsoft Query (12.0.6423.1000) SP2 MSO (12.0.6554.5001)

- Windows Vista Business SP2

Thank you,

Mattia

Filemaker supports direct import of Excel as a native file format - skip the MS Query step and import direct from Excel.

You can even drag and drop an Excel file on the Filemaker Icon and it will create a new database based on the Excel table.

I think the OP is trying to go the other direction: to query FileMaker Pro from within Excel. Presumably on a recurrent basis.

I think FileMaker can only be used as a Data Source if you have FileMaker Server (possibly Server Advanced).

OK, I got it backwards (nothing strange about that :)

If the other way, it is not really a problem, but as an export the data set required for analysis in Excel, rather than a query. Make the query data subset a function of the FM side of the equation??

The biggest problem I see with this is the old "one version of the truth" question. Once the data is outside of the authoritative source, data integrity can never be assured. Now the FM supports graphing, there is not much (ok, pivot tables), that you need to go outside of FM for.
