Enter/View child record's field in parent record?

Please refer to the attached .jpg.

What I'd like to do is to be able to click on the blue [N] button in a portal row so I can enter or view note text for that child record in the Note field above the portal. (I don't want to have a pop-up window or take the user to another screen to enter the note.)

I imagine it can't be too complicated...but more complicated than I can fathom!

TIA for your help!

Rich

With NOTES as a related table, a Go To Related Record command, using the current layout, and starting from the context of the portal that you are selecting the field from should work.

However, a lot in that statement is dependent on the relationship model, as well as the context of the layout and portal.

In the parent layout have a field (mine is global) named PortalRow. Your N button script is

Set Field [ Parent::PortalRow ; Get ( PortalRowNumber ) ]

Your Notes field is calculated as

GetNthRecord ( Child::Notes ; PortalRow )
