Can you link a record to an outside PDF?

I am working on a database for customer records. I would like to eliminate boxes of paper invoices. I want to scan the invoices into PDFs and then link the corresponding record to the PDF. (e.g. You look up Mr. Doe's service call for May 5, 2008; the record shows some information; you can click on a link in the record to view the PDF Invoice in a new window) Is this possible?

It may be a little labor intensive but it can be done (the scanning, naming and import into Filemaker).

Each scan needs to be placed into a container file and linked to the contact (Contact::pKey to ScannedData::fKey).

The work will be worth it. We have 15 years of job history in our database. Having the invoices available help us very much. I am new to FileMaker programming, but have made dozens of databases with Access. If I store the pdf files in a folder on the host computer can do I use a calculated field to bring them up?
