Copying a single record from one database to another datebase via script

I must be dumb I guess because this seems like a real easy thing to do but I can only get a script to pull all the records from a database. What I have is a quote database and a invoice database I made sure the field names were the same and stuff like that but when I make a script to pull in the record that was just created like a quote, all the quotes come in not just the record that was up on the quote. I know there is a way to do this and I would guess it's easy and I am just overlooking something so if anyone can help me that would be great!!
