Multiply a Summary by 6

Okay, this is what I have...

A number field called "code" which is an identifier to a type of product.

A summary field called "instrument count" which is a Count of Code.

I need to take the "instrument count" and multiply by 6 to see how many of the type of product I need for 6 weeks.

Is this possible? I can't find anywhere to make a calculation to multiply these fields.

I am using Filemaker Pro 9 Advanced on a Mac.

Thanks in advance for your help.

couple of suggestions could be to look into the GetSummary function, and use this in a new calculation, multiplying the result by 6.

Or create a new calc field which simply contains the number 6. Create a new summary field which sums this calc field (instead of calc).

So if there are 10 records, the count returns 10, but the sum of the new calc returns 6 * 10

Hey Weetbix,

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I knew it had something to do with GetSummary, but you jogged my memory on a couple of ways of looking at the problem.

I made a number field called Multiplier and inserted my number, this will allow me to change it in the future ;-)

I also made another Calculation field called MultiCount which has the following calc--"GetSummary ( Instruments Count ; FrameSize ) * multiplier".

For me Framesize is another field referring to the framesize of a piece of gel in front of a light. I used this as my breakfield because in my layout I am doing a sub-summary by Framesize.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Gary
