plantphoto
Hi, I have imported all my tables from Access and trying to get up to speed with filemaker on my mac but I'm having problems. I want to copy two fields in table view and paste them into 50-100 other records but I can't see how to do this. Firstly how do I select 2 fields as no matter what I try I can't find a way which is insane. In access I could do this in table view no problem then paste into several other records. Can anyone point me in right direction? Regards, Simon
AHunter3
I want to copy two fields in table view and paste them into 50-100 other records but I can't see how to do this. Do you mean that you want to take the values that are in two fields of one record and set the values of 50-100 other records to those same values, for those two fields? First, make sure that the records being browsed (your current found set) consists of the records that you want to set to those values. Go to first field, make sure you are in the record that has the value you want all 50-100 records to end up with. Do Command-Equals (Mac) or Control-Equals (PC) to bring up the Replace Field Contents dialog. Confirm that you want to replace all values in that field with the current contents of the current record, for the entire found set of 50 (or whatever) records, then click "OK". Repeat for second field.
plantphoto
I was just about to boot windows and run access and give up on filemaker ! That did the trick thanks,Never found that in any book or the dvd tutorial. So can I restrict this to replace say just certain amount of fields or does it have to replace all say 900 fields in that column? Or is their a way to select several fields at same time. As I mentioned in Access I just select both fields copy and then can paste. Regards, Simon http://www.plantphoto.com
plantphoto
Have used the find replace to do what I need so thanks for that. I'd still love to know how (if possible) I can select two fields at same time as it's baffled me. Simon http://www.plantphoto.com
AHunter3
You do not select two fields at a time. So can I restrict this to replace say just certain amount of fields or does it have to replace all say 900 fields in that column? Replace works on the found set. So you need to isolate the records whose values you want to replace, first, and then run Replace Field Contents. ⌘-F to put you in Find Mode, type the params in each field that you want (i.e., if you wish all records where Name = "jerry" and Status = "active", click in the Name field after goigng into Find Mode, type "jerry"), click in the Status field and type "active" and hit Enter. Now when you run the Replace, it will replace only the 93 records where Name = "jerry" and Status = "active".
J Wenmeekers
Put your routine in a script and you can change as many fields as you want, all in one move.
