How do I 'Load' a Custom Function into FM9

Hello, I am trying to get a feel for FileMaker, after making the decision to move an Access database (after getting sick of running XP in a VM just for Access). I downloaded a custom function (universaltimeformatter.fp7) to ease time entry into the FileMaker database, but after downloading it, I have NO idea how to use it in my database. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I was just looking for a way to not have to enter the ':' when entering the time (less time spent crossing the keyboard is a good thing) and UTF seems to be a great function. Alas, it is useless to me, being a FileMaker newbie, as I can't move it into my DB. Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the incorrect place for posting this... I didn't realize where I was when I created the post. Can the mod move it, as I know it is annoying when folks double-post?

go to menu bar -> file -> define database... -> custom functions.

then an edit window will pop up

where'd you get that cf? does not sound like one, with the fp7 extension.

It's in your File Menu. Define --> Custom Functions.

kjoe, the OP probably downloaded a file that HAS the cf in it and uses it as an example in a script or calc field.

Hi there Maarten, thanks for the reply. I saw this menu option, but was stumped how I would get the function from the fp7 file into my DB. I downloaded the function from this link: http://www.foundationdbs.com/downloads.html

It opens like it is a database on it's own. There are 'Instructions' but I suppose that my FileMaker knowledge is so limited that I am not sure what to do. Thanks again!

You nailed it... Like I said in my reply to Maarten, I am a complete idiot when it comes to FM and custom functions, so how I get the CF from this DB into mine stumps me.

OK so open the demo file, open define database -> custom functions, double click on the CF provided. then the edit box appears.

you can copy-paste the function in your own file.

you do need to set the parameters also, in the little window above the calculation edit window.

Ah ha... Okay, when I get back into the shop, I will give this a whirl and report back and soon as I can. Thanks!
