Hi,

Just recently encountering a problem opening a FM 8.5 file on Leopard 10.5.2; I'm prompted as usual for the username and password which I enter. FM returns the following message...

"xxxxx.fp7 could not be opened. (Not Open)"

Any idea what might be causing this issue and how to resolve.

TIA.

Jack

Are you opening this file from a network volume? I'm encountering some odd bugs in 10.5.2 some of which affect network file opening in FileMaker. Specifically file permissions appear to be corrupting and it doesn't always happen at file open but can occur if a file is being referenced even if it has been open for some time.

Check the file's permissions and try opening it in FMP 9 (the trial version if that's the only way) or in an earlier OS version.

So far my experience of OS X 10.5.x has kept me from recommending rolling it out in client's production environments. There are too many weird bugs.

Hi Norma,

Fyi, I'm not using any networking version. Some apparent weird things at play here... looking at the file permissions shows an unknown group (I'm not actually sure that is incorrect). Tried opening the file in Tiger but same problem. Fortunately, I found a recent backup (pre Leopard) and tried opening it in Panther...no problem.. just out a few days data but it is a few significant days unfortunately. Consequently, I'm still working/looking at getting this problem resolved.

I'm going to try it with a trial version of v9 as you suggest...and thank you for taking the time to respond.
