I am designing a database in FileMaker Pro 9 and I need help. What I would like to do is if a client record is retrieved, and it has been 1 year or more since that client has been into the agency, I want a message to appear on the screen that tells the front desk representative to gather more information from the client before he or she is checked out. How do I do this in FM? Thank you!Help!

Is your current routine for "retrieving" a client record scripted, or are your end users simply going ⌘-F and typing in the client name or ID and hitting return?

In that case, it's a very difficult can of worms trying to make something "pop up" just because someone GOES TO a record that contains a specified value. If it were a scripted Find, far easier.

Does it have to be a pop-up dialog? Can it just be a bright red calculated text field that's either there or not there depending on field values?

I would prefer for it to actually say something to the user - because the people using the system are not technical at all - they need a message that's easy to see somewhere really obvious and so forth. Any other ideas?

STOP!!! THIS CLIENT RECORD HADN'T BEEN RETRIEVED SINCE JAN 06!!! YOU HAVE TO INPUT NEW INFO BEFORE CHECKOUT!!!

Like that? As I said, a calculated text field in red that's either there or not there depending on parameters.
