FMP 5.5 with OS X 10.5?

Hi all.

First post here.

I've been using an customer and invoicing database I set up in 5.5 for years now. Now I here things about older versions not being compatible with Leopard, which makes me very nervous.

I don't need network or online options, if that matters.

Has anyone here used FMP 5 or 5 on Mac OS X 1.5 successfully or not? I'd love some concrete information before deciding whether to update.

I don't know the definitive answer but since there are problems with 9 and 8.5, I would assume also problems with 5.5. FWIW, it is an unsupported product so there will be no assistance available. It is, after all, a release from May 2001. You can't honestly expect it to work with an October 2007 operating system.

No, don't most other programs that worked on early versions of OX X still work? Maybe not on 10.5, which seems to be a bigger break from the past under the hood.

Maybe it would be a less painful upgrade if Filemaker at least gave me the option of an upgrade license, not a full new purchase!

Any updates on compatibility of Leopard with Filemaker 6? We have had some challenges getting Open Remote to work. Not sure if setting a port or other patches at the server would help. We just share a file and do not own Filemaker server. We have the option to upgrade to Filemaker 7 if that would help. Thanks!

Any flavor of FileMaker predating 8.5 is going to be compiled for PowerPC Mac and will therefore run in Rosetta. There are known issues with some of the functions not working correctly under Rosetta.

FileMaker Pro 5.5 doesn't play particularly well even on the combo of 10.4.x and PowerPC Mac. Admittedly that could be due to a somehow-hosed installation but my 5.5 is crash-prone whereas I can still run 6 without problems.

I'm using 5.5 and 6 with 10.5 and have had no troubles at all. I'm not doing advanced work, either, but for simple relationships and calculations, everything is working fine.
