Question about File Size, I'm not a Developer

Hi and thank you for reading my post.

I have never used FileMaker Pro before, and I hired a developer to set up a database for me. We use lots of Pictures in our Database which have set up to create a PDF with thumbnails of pictures with some information regarding sizes & personal details to the side of that thumbnail.

Everything works great except when I try to make a PDF the file is just so big I can't even email it or do anything with it!! I've been trying my best to play with it, to see if the pictures needed to be smaller...but to no avail I cannot figure it out.

For example, I have one picture in there that is 60k, and then when I put that picture with the text into the PDF (through the script the developer set up) the PDF itself it 700k!!! I just don't understand how it get so big in one step.

I was hoping someone had some pretty simple steps on trying to rectify this problem. I'm afraid that if I try to contact the developer he will charge me for his time to help fix this. I don't have any money to do that. I'd rather figure it out for myself.

I appreciate your time and help.

Heather

Heather,

When you print to a PDF it copies everything it sees in the layout.

700K these day is small. Emailer gerenrally except upto 10MB per mail sometimes more.

If you wish to make it smaller .... Maybe a new Print layout with less items in to print to make a smaller pdf?
