I am creating a photo catalogue and have inserted photo's using a script "insert picture(reference)" now the file is very large 146mb. Is there any way of making it smaller. The photo's are large at the source but only 5cm x 5cm in the record.

well that's what's supposed to happen if you check this box. for what it's worth, a ten-picture test file ref only was 56k; embedded, over 10MB.

maybe you've got a really large number of records?

If you are importing a folder of pictures it does not matter how big you are displaying them, they are still the same picture. If you picture is 2mb in the folder, the size of the file will increase by 2mb when it is imported.

Do you have PhotoShop .... Use option

Automate .. Web Photo Gallery.

Then import the Images from the Web Photo Gallery . Either the Thumbnails or the images. When the Photoshop convert the picture the get reduced to around 15k each

In FM in layout click on the container field and go to grapic on the tool bar and change grapic to enlarge . You choice to keep oringinal propotions or not.

One way to test if the container contains the actual image, or a reference only:

Define a calculation field (result is Text) =

GetAsText ( Containerfield )

If the calc field returns the image path, the container stores a reference only.

If it returns only a filename, it's the full image.

This actually did work when I closed the file and reopened the question mark was replaced by the image path.
