Combine Two Values from list?

I have a a value check list with about 20 items that are in a check box form.

I was wondering if I can combine 2 of the items in the value list and retian their check marks?

So like for example I have sales as one check box in the value list and then marketing as another. Can I combine Sales/marketing into one check box and retain the check marks for the records that exist already?

You could change "Sales" to "Sales/Marketing" and then see if the checkboxes were kept; if they aren't, just do a find/replace on the field to replace "Sales" with "Sales/Marketing".
