OK,OK I know this is an easy one however I'm going to ask anyway. What is the process (from start to finish in order) to set up a formula in order to add the - marks where they need to be in order to have a ssn look like this "###-##-####"

thanks in advance for helping those less advanced as yourselves

What you need is an auto-entered calculated value option for the SSN field. Lets say the SSN field is called SSNmasked:

Let(

SSN = Substitute ( SSNmasked ; ["-" ; ""] ; ["/" ; ""] ; [" " ; ""] );

Middle(SSN; 1; 3) & "-" & Middle(SSN; 4; 2) & "-" & Middle(SSN; 6; 4)

)

Make sure the "Do not replace existing value of field (if any)" option is UNCHECKED.

What the calculation does is to strip out any spaces, slashes and dashes from the data entered and then inserts dashes as required. It also drops off any additional characters.

See how you go with that.
