External Authentication issues with Active Directory

Hi, I have a question about External Authentication We have a Filemaker Server (19.3.2) on Windows 2016 Server, with Active Directory. Recently our Filemaker Apps started behaving weirdly. Randomly, during login, the correct password is rejected. After 1-3 tries the system accepts it. The same issue happens with the native apps on Mac and Windows. Also, it's really slow during login. I assume it tries to authenticate. I looked up the Event Viewer, there are a lot of failed attempts. In FM Server Log the connections keep dropping. Even if it's set to no timeout. I think it might be some Windows AD issue, or some network related because I experiencing th…

Manage Database failed to close

Hi, I opened Manage Database and created a relationship in there. Then, I clicked "OK". After that, my cursor started spinning and the Manage Database failed to close (Please see that attached picture) It has been spinning for 3 hours. Is there anyone knows how to resolve this issue ? I've noticed that FileMaker is peculiar in its treatment of the OS clipboard. • Sometimes I have copied something to the clipboard and gone to paste it into FileMaker and what pastes is something copied previously; and yet I switch focus to a text editor (TextWrangler usually) and paste and it more properly and correctly pastes the more recently copied item. I have no idea where the heck FileMaker is looking that enables it to referenced some previously copied item. This hasn't happened recently enough that I can provide addl information but it may be a clue to the next one, for which I can: • FileMaker dependably rejects items copied to the clipboard from some …

I've upgraded a massive FM11 file to FM13. In several cases, relationships (used in portals, value lists, etc) which had been working properly in FM11 suddenly ceased working in FM13. In other cases, the relationship worked until I added a layout theme to the design. No fields were changed. Just the layout theme. Sometimes simply deleting the field/portal in question and then re-adding it would fix the issue. In other cases, an entirely new relationship had to be created to fix the issue. I tried opening the file in FM14 in a couple of those instances to see if the original relationship worked there. In both cases, it did work in FM14. Thoughts? Suggestions? …

Popovers Blank...sometimes

I have some popover buttons that have fields and buttons on them after they pop up. Sometimes when they pop up they are blank. Since I know where the buttons should be I can press them and they trigger so they are there but you cant see them. If I go bounce around to other layouts and come back they will start working normally. I can't seem to force the problem but I can seem to get them back by bouncing around layouts.

I've recently seen a change in how PDFs in containers are handled. I'm using FMPA 13.05, but even after uninstalling FMPA, and my PDF software I'm seeing the same thing. A layout with 4 thumbnail sized containers, and the container set to interactive - instead of showing the thumbnail of the PDFs, launches the PDF viewer in a standalone PDF application, with 4 tabs. When displaying from the Server (v13.05) I see the filename as the remote secure filename. How do I fix this? Alan Barker

I have latest version of Filemaker Pro 13 installed on Windows 8.1 laptop (HP Elitebook). After fields are created their information does not show up when CTRL SHFT D command is used to display field info and to do things like add formula, etc. On each line of display there is everything but text. Filemaker support says this is not an issue with FMP and hence my problem to solve. I have attached screen shot showing field names and list with no field names. Also if in layout mode and double click a field, the list that pops up is not populated with info about fields. I've created a 32-bit DSN and it tests correctly. I've set it up in Filemaker 13 and I can see the tables, but when I go to add a table from the remote connection in the relationships graph, Filemaker crashes. The screen goes gray and I have to force a close. There are other tables in another file which work just fine using the same driver, accessing another database/domain. A check of the registry shows they are all using the same driver and it's a 32-bit one. The connection is to MySQL 5.5. My system is Win7, 64-bit. If I see the table, I should be able to add it. What's going on here? Your help appreciated!!!! Jim

Hi all, I have a container field on a layout in FMP13 on a windows 8 computer that will not allow "Insert pdf". This option is greyed out. The field (via layout mode) has been set as optimised for interactive content and the insert Audio/video option is available. I have tested this same file on a windows 7 computer and on a Mac (OSX10.9) and the insert pdf option is available on both. The Win8 computer has Nitro pdf reader installed, so I uninstalled adobe reader on the Win7 computer and installed Nitro reader to isolate the pdf reader variable but the win7 still allowed "insert pdf". Any ideas as to what is stopping the insert pdf option ? Cheers

Hi, I am using FileMaker Pro 13 on Mac and have the following problem (also shows in Version 12 on the PC): I have a table X with an attribute called "name". After having most of my DB work completed, I need to place this attribute on a Layout and I cannot get it working (got it working in other DBs in the past): FileMaker always displays > in the merge field instead of the value - it seems it just does not recognise the merge field but treats it as text. I have recovered the DB and emptied all tables - no change. I'd appreciate really any help - am not keen in starting my DB over again. Thanks a lot, Mercator

Hi, I'm running FM13 on a Mac (Mavericks). I'm trying to insert a file reference into a container field. The file (MS Word docx) is on a network drive (a Windows shared drive). When I try (using Insert menu), I get the message "The file ____ could not be opened. (Not Found)" even though I can see the file and open it normally using the Finder and MS Word. Any ideas? Thanks.

Last night I 'upgraded' my OSX system to Yosemite. This morning, after I was prompted by FM to DL Java and did so, I restarted FM 13 Advanced. The problem: I experience this weird, delaying behavior: When I switch between the Standard FM Menu and my custom menu, FM hangs for about 20 seconds and then doesn't display the menu until I click in the menu area. I also get a delay going from my custom menu to the Standard FM Menu. :confused: Anyone else have this problem? (Everything was fine before I upgraded)

Dates displaying oddly in text

When ever go to insert a date in a text string using "<<Agreement::Purchased>>" or "{{CurrentDate}}", it displays at "Sep 2014" rather than "09/25/2014" or any other style that makes sense. This also seems to be the default setting when ever I create a new date edit box. Anyone know how to change this default behavior? I don't know how it was done in the first place because I didn't create the database, I'm just working in it.

Hi, When I export records to html, the en- and em-dashes disappear from any of the fields in which they appear. The content of the records are for an email newsletter. Any ideas why this happens and, more importantly, how to fix? Thanks! Stephen

Hi there! I have a field in my database that takes the description field of a record, and auto-enters a calculated value making the field only 45 characters long. The problem is that it is also adding a return, making the field actually 46 characters long. How do I stop this? This is the statement: If (PatternCount(Self;"New Content");LeftValues(Product Name;45);TextFormatRemove(Self)) Is there a different function that I should be using? Thanks for your help!

Hi All, I wasn't sure where to put this but I definitely call it strange. I recently started working with a client that had a solution developed for him (FM 12). There were some problems with the developer(s) and although the solution is mostly complete some issues still need to be addressed. It uses a data separation model which I'm fine with. The client was given an admin account/password which works fine on the main solution. I can change layouts, scripts, etc. The problem arises with the data portion. Some of the calculated fields in the tables need to be changed. The admin account logs in fine but all of the "Manage" options are greyed out. I downloaded …

We have many Filemaker databases hosted on server, but have one database that is giving us issues. On multiple occasions a staffer has entered a new file, and a few minutes later the record is gone. You know its been created because we use an automatic serial number for each file and that number is no longer there. When you perform a find, it cannot find the record for that serial number. I have already confirmed that there is not a script written for this. Has anyone else had this issue with Filemaker 13 and Filemaker 13 Server?

I'm disappointed that FMI let this release ooze out, and if it is not corrected very soon, will be forced to shut down our services and roll back to Server version 12. ---------------------- I patched my production 13 Filemaker server last night with the patch file FMI provided yesterday (5/6/14 Updater 295). This is a Windows Server 2008 R2 installation, and it rendered the Admin console unusable. FMI Tech support is instructing me to uninstall the full FMPS13, and start over with the full fmps13.2 installation vs patching. Unfortunately this is production, and the machine is heavily used, …

When you use a dropdown list and format it with those characteristics, what are you dealing with when you click on it and it does not just populate the field with the choice, it just stays stuck on choice in list. I then have to click away to see it populate the field. Is this supposed to be this way? I am using 13 Advanced on Windows.
