Why does my script always process record number 1 instead of the current record? I am saying: find the relevant account record Add (or subtract) the transaction amount to/from the current balance Very simple but, no matter record I am on when I call the script, it processes the amounts in record no 1 instead of the current record :-(

Does anybody have a good way of restraining the viewable records a user sees when they login to only those that they have account access to? I want to avoid the "No Access" labels in the fields. This seems like it should be a very basic function for a web enabled database but I can't find any documentation about how to accomplish it. I intend to publish an IWP solution using FileMaker 8. Thanks!

Hi Everybody, I receive every week the sales data from my US customer. Every week has only a number (Excel file). I need to have the date of that week entering the week nbr. in a calculation field with a data function or similar that when I enter for example "40" in a new record I will have a sort of "October 5, 2012" since is the last working day of that week. Something that could be considered a reverse of the "WeekofYear" date function. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi, I can't seem to find the option to have the kind of check box that you find in access, whereby unticked is equal to zero and ticked is 1 or yes. Is there such a thing in filemaker? So far what I have done is make another field, I then have a checkbox for this, that looks up the value list of 1. So when it is unchecked, the value becomes null, or at least i think its that, and when it is ticked, it is 1. I then do an 'if' calculation in the (original) field that has to be 1 or zero, that makes it become 1 if the checkbox field is 1 and 0 if the checkbox field is null. So far so good I suppose. However, it is past records that I think will pose a problem.…

I am working on a database for an artist - a printmaker. I have several tables: Plates Editions Individual Prints. The idea is that she will make a plate, and for each plate there can be several editions. For each edition there are many prints. We need to keep track of each individual print. In the Plates layout, I have a portal to the Editions, with a drop down menu for the edition number. How can I now relate, and have a portal to all the prints for that specific edition? I'm sure it's a simple relationship problem and I've tried everything and am confused. thanks

I've set up a FM database to track hard-copy archives of paper files. My 4 tables are as follows: Storage number -- each storage number may house several boxes Box -- each box may contain several folders Folder -- each folder may contain several content documents Document Each relationship is one-to-many, moving from the top down (these are paper files, so there is no way for one document to belong to more than one folder, etc.). If this doesn't lay bear my newness nothing else will. In evaluating FMP8 and the BPK the very first thing I tried to do I got stuck! On the Main Menu module there are two fields, one for Company Name and the other for the logo. How in heck do I change these????? They seem to be special 'global' entries so they can be used throughout the modules but I cannot for thelife of me 'Insert your company name here'. I tried going to a table view and accessing the field directly but it wont let me in.

Hi Ray, A while ago you had a solution available, sorry I don’t remember the name, allow you to preview and print layouts without having to access the status area. This was great in many ways including security and brings up a couple questions. Do you feel the current status area is more secure and when you build a solution do you use the status area? If your answer is No! Then do you use the same procedure shown in the solution I mentioned in the first paragraph? Hi all, having got to the end of my project, I lifted my pride and joy solution off the Mac I did all the work on, and onto a PC. I was prepared for some reformatting, moving some fields around, changing fonts etc, BUT I WAS HORRIFIED TO SEE THE THE END RESULT! Sorry, some dramatic effect there :-) The layout elements that looked crisp, sleek, and somewhat dainty in their design, ported over to the PC as huge, "that's WAY too big for this screen" horribly boxy, things! This should be simple but I'm lost... again. I'm trying to write a script that will test if any (one or several) of 4 words are in a global text field formatted as check boxes that call a value list with these 4 values "Alpha", "Bravo", "Charlie", "Delta". If none of the words is ticked, my script calls for a beep. If one or several of the words are checked then it calls other scripts depending upon the word(s) that are ticked. We are using Filemaker to send out monthly newsletters to our clients in our client database. Outlook is our default MAPI email. When we run the script to send the emails every time filemaker tries to send the next email from the script outlook pops up a window asking us to select our outlook profile. This requires someone to site there and click OK each time for the script to run. We only have one profile set up in outlook. Anyone know how to stop this from occuring? (i.e., have the script run and send emails to each person withotu prompting us on each record). Thanks!

Strange issue with checkbox value

Hey All, I have a really odd issue with a checkbox set. I need to write a script that checks to see whether or not two seperate checkbox sets are filled in. Both of these 'sets' only have one checkbox. One of the sets has a PatternCount value of zero when it is not filled and a value of one when it is filled. The other set has a value of 7 when it is not filled and a value of 8 when it is filled. Stranger still, this only occurs in layouts that refer to a specific table -- All other layouts show 0 when that checkbox set is not filled and 1 when it is. Does anyone have any ideas? TiA, Preet

I can't seem to figure out how to assign a Double Click Event (is that the correct word?) to a field, I'm new to FM so forgive me is this is a redundant or trivial task. As I look at unknown databases, is there a way learn more about the nature of objects? For example, is there a way to know if an object is a button or has a button attached to it? Even if I go to Button Setup... and it says "Do Nothing", I still don't know if it's a button or other object that I have selected. Wouldn't it be nice if a selected object would be identifed on the toolbar as a button, field, etc. I seem to have to do a lot of clicking to analyze each object. I ask, as I am trying to learn from the sample databases. Thanks, Sonny

Is it possible to link barcode labels with FMP files? All my books in a FMP 5.5. file have an unique ID. I can 'translate' that ID to a barcode and print barcode labels. Will reading that label with a barcode reader bring the corresponding record in my book file on screen?

Every time I create a new record, enter some data and click any button to go to List View, Next Record or even hit Up on the 5-Way Navigator my Treo 650 resets. I don't run any hacks and have tried disabling Jot and ClipPRO without any positive results. Anyone else having instability issues on their Palm devices?

Hi Folks.. Question... I have this large text file wich looks like this: Org: SymCo Address: 220 Smith St. City: TestTown State: PA Zip: 12345 And that goes on for each differnet Company (hundreds of them). Between each Field (which is what I want them to be) there is a carriage return (New paragraph) so it all looks left justified. I want to take each Category (ex. State:) and make that a single field and import the entire text as a single database ... The problem is that I cannot define the categories so that Filemaker will ID them on Import. Any ideas??
