CDML to Lasso Converter
by Kevin Y.- 1 follower

This is a little embarrassing. we might possibly have the last website in the world still running on CDML. When Filemaker discontinued support of CDML we planned to convert to Lasso but ran out of time. Then Blackbelt showed up and allowed us to remain in our current platform, which we continue to use today with FM Server 11. It really has worked very well, but we've outgrown it and we need to upgrade to FM 18 and Lasso, which is the middleware used by our consultant. When we were planning to convert in 2009, we got a copy of the CDML to Lasso Converter and ran it on all our files. Since then, we have lost track of the Converter. Our format files have changed a lot s…

Hello All, This is just a small FileMaker-based tool whose input is the XML data of Database Design Report exported from Filemaker. It can help developers save time finding elements in a solution. Below is what the tool provides • Search any fields in a whole solution • Search any layouts in a whole solution • Search any scripts in a whole solution • Search any TO (Table Occurrence) in a whole solution • Import many solutions You can download the tool from the following link http://www.locatorfm.com The zip file is around 4MB so it can not be uploaded here Enjoy using it. Thanks, Nhan

Data Modeling Resource!
by Feirefiz- 0 replies
- 1.3k views
You know how we ordinary FileMaker folks are always wondering how come the ones who know what they're doing know what they're doing, in particular regarding relationships and data modeling in general? We're always looking for examples, manuals, tutorials, how-to guides, and in this regard, the FM books stay at a rather basic level and use practically the same example. Well, a couple months ago while looking at various FM books, I stumbled across a book recommendation (I forgot from which book: FM Developer's Reference or FM Bible or another?): The Data Model Resource Book. There are three volumes, and the one I've been looking at is Volume 3: Universal Patterns for Data M…

FM on almost any device?

Anyone know anything about this announcement from World Cloud, some 8 months ago? (I'd call Joe - he is a great guy to talk to - and ask, but I don't have the time right now). What is this, and what does it do? Is this virtual client just MS Remote Desktop Protocol or is there more to it? The HTML5 reference "clouds" :-) the issue. HTML5 and RDP combined clients would (will?) be an interesting development, as performance should be greatly improved. I'm not finding VNC/HTML/OS X combos as yet, but there are a number of early RDP/HTML5/Windows combinations out there. I would also guess - if I am reading this right - that the server requirements might be a bit…

Running Active-X Control Inside FM
by thamera- 0 replies
- 2.5k views
I have an active-x control that I would like to be able to run "inside" filemaker. This active-x control is a graphical viewer that exposes navigational and selection controls for viewing a 3D object. Within the control, 3D "sub-objects" can be clicked and the active-x control provides data that is nested within the 3D sub-object. I would like to be able to run this control in FM. When an object is clicked, I would like to be have filemaker find and display a record that contains additional data about the object that is stored in FM. Obviously, there will need to be a unique data field in the active-x object being clicked that also exists within a table in FM. Does …

August 6th, 9:30am at the Hub Cira Centre At IT Solutions, we’ve been working on ways to help our clients make better use of their existing FileMaker systems for faster access to information, resulting in better data driven decisions. We’ve been helping clients utilize some of the exciting new features in FileMaker 10, but even if you’re using a previous version, there are still plenty of ways to maximize your data access efficiency. We’re eager to share this knowledge at an August 6th seminar dedicated exclusively to working with FileMaker. "Better Data, Better Decisions with FileMaker" will be an information-packed 1/2 day seminar at the new Hub Cira Cen…

I do not harbor pretentious aspirations for lofty praises for the interface on this thing — it's just the data, ma'am, and just enough interface to let you have at it — but here, as intermittently promised, is a guide to all the versions of FileMaker and what was in them, and reciprocally all the features and in what version they first appeared. For calculation functions (i.e., those available to calculation-field formulas and also available to a vast number of script steps) and for script steps (available steps that one might insert into one's script), it's pretty comprehensive. For other functions, there's room to say I neglected to mention this or that feature, bu…

SQL, from a FileMaker Developer's Perspective
by AHunter3- 8 replies
- 8.3k views
Kind of like a Windows switcher's guide to the Mac or vice versa, I guess; the web — Amazon and otherwise — have plenty of guides to SQL, beginner's orientations, SQL for Dummies, etc etc, but some of it assumes you've never met a database before in your life, while some assumes a passing familiarity with relational db theory... I never did find any that were truly aimed at the proficient FileMaker developer. Having muddled through it a bit this winter and spring, I thought I'd share my perceptions. Those of you who are FileMaker-centric as I am, and have yet to mess with SQL to any real extent, may benefit somewhat, and those of you who came IN here to learn F…

Following up on this thread ... I listened to the podcast of the two matt's: Matt Petrowski and Matt Navarre, both well known figures in the community. At first I thought what the bleep? but then I sort of got into the flow of two chatty guys being geeky about filemaker. it's really neat. they share a lot of knowledge and sit there clicking away, sharing their favourite links... it was a pleasant experience and it got me thinking. always good that, thinking. so here's their site where you can link to their podcast in iTunes... http://filemakertalk.com/ enjoy ps brsamuel, thanks for the link

A Filemaker-powered message board
by AHunter3- 1 reply

Not sure this is the best place to post this, since I'm not quite offering a resource, but close enough... I have created an IWP message board in FileMaker. vBulletin it's not, but it works...all without php or any other custom web tools, just plain ol' IWP. The purpose to which I intend to put it is a) to replace the "Sign my Guestbook" thingie on my personal web site; and b) to link to it from my online resume / professional website to receive comments pertaining to me & my services as a FileMaker developer. (And for this it serves the additional purpose of showing off a fragment of my wares). To read the board as a guest as directed from th…

Yes, another DevCon has passed. Now that I’m back with my trusty Internet connection, I thought it would be a good time to reflect on the conference. For those of you that attended, please join in with the highlights of your week. If you missed DevCon this year, this is a little bit of what you missed. I must say, I was very happy with the sessions this year. From Matt Navarre’s interesting (and useful) session about extending FileMaker’s Search capabilities to find and display results from multiple tables, to Jeff Hough’s web viewer trick for tracking user activity though a solution. We had a wealth of interesting topics to choose from, and lots of ne…

DevCon Developments

Yes folks, it's that time of year again. The FileMaker Developer Conference is right around the corner and it's time to book the flights before the window seats are all taken. I'm pretty excited to go this year, as the sessions look especially interesting: http://advisorevents.com/cff0708p.nsf/w/Monday It's been a couple years since I've been able to get out there. I've had to get my "geek fix" by hanging around the forums. But thank goodness for DevCon (and a company willing to pay for me to go)! Of course, my favorite part is the classy hotel (hey, I don't get out much). But really it's just great to meet up with other folks with the same kind of F…
